About Caption Colorado Conference Call Captioning Services

Caption Colorado's conference call captioning services (Internet text streaming) are the ideal solution for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals that need to participate in multi-party online conferencing events and for meeting coordinators that want to ensure that their online conferencing event will fully accommodate all participants, including individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing.

Caption Colorado developed this service when it became apparent that traditional services inadequately handled online conferences.  Caption Colorado's Internet text streaming, and its voice relay counterpart, Realtime Conference Call (RCC) Captioning, are the result.

Service is generally offered from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.  If broader hours of coverage are needed please let Caption Colorado know.

Booking an event:

Typically, an individual needing the captioning or an event coordinator will book the service to ensure it is accommodating and accessible.

Once the event is booked, a participant or coordinator can then share the URL link with all individuals that can benefit from the captioning.  If you anticipate more than 50 individual viewers will need captioning services please let Caption Colorado know so that they can adjust their servers.

Company background:

Caption Colorado is the nation's leading provider of realtime captioning for television and the Internet.  They provide realtime captioning for over 500 events, shows, calls, and Webcasts daily.  They provide over 100,000 hours of captioning annually.

The process:

Caption Colorado developed an enhancement to their realtime captioning service, which had primarily been supporting the television industry, in response to a request from Sprint, over three years ago, to design a better system of service for conference calls.

Previously, the process used traditional typists in a Relay call center typing 50-60 wpm.  In that method of practice, the flow of the conversation must frequently stop (at the request of the Relay agent communication assistant) in order for them to catch up with the dialogue.  While this can be a nuisance on a "one on one" call, it is impossible with a multi-party or conference call.

Caption Colorado changed the entire paradigm for conference calls by replacing the typing communication assistant with a specially trained realtime captioner who can maintain speeds in excess of 200 wpm, so there is no delay in the text and never an interruption on the call.

Caption Colorado's service is either one-way (captioning only) or two-way (captioning plus voice relay service).  The user(s) decide whether they wish to voice for themselves or have them voice by typing comments and questions in the online html application to the captioner who can speak for them on the call; thus the captioner becomes the communications assistant. Caption Colorado is prepared on every call to voice for the participant and await text input for us to voice.  Caption Colorado captions all of the dialogue in realtime.

Audio:

Audio is carried over traditional phone lines and conference calling bridges.  Caption Colorado is not a conference bridge provider and has no vested interest in which service you elect to use; they simply use the system that the callers/participants select.  Caption Colorado is an "invited" party on the call, like all the other participants, and have the same rights and permissions on the call that everyone has.

Internet delivery:

Caption Colorado delivers realtime captioning via the Internet from their dedicated text streaming server via http: or https: connection.  Their secure https connection uses 128-bit encryption, the same security in use for online credit card transactions.  Their encryption certificate and service is provided by VeriSign.  They provide this same level of security for events by US DOJ, Corrections, Commerce, US House of Representatives, DOT, IRS, VA and other government agencies.

Transcript:

An added benefit of Caption Colorado's service is the optional access to a text transcript for any call.  At the time of scheduling the event, the user or meeting coordinator may elect that a transcript is produced, or not.  If produced, it can be made accessible to the end user to save to their desktop or only to view and not save.  This way, each event is as private and confidential as the users require.

If the person scheduling a conference calling captioned event chooses No Transcript, there is no way for Caption Colorado to later reproduce one.  Caption Colorado considers these calls entirely confidential and no record of the text is maintained on the server or for the event.  Please be sure to choose this selection carefully.

No contract required:

This is an on-demand service; no contracts or commitments are required and you don't need to register in advance, however if you plan to use the service you can e-mail Caption Colorado your general information and we'll build a profile for you so that you don't have to repeat standing information.

When an event, conference call or meeting is scheduled for captioning, Caption Colorado assigns a realtime stenocaptioner from their nationwide team to cover your event.  These are the same professionals that handle the rigorous demands of live broadcast television captioning and we have contracts with ABC, NBC, CBS, Starz-Encore, National Geographic, A&E, and many others.

One rate covers all:

For IDEAL Group online conference calls CART service is provided at $85/event hour. For commercial accounts, the service is billed at $140/event hour with a 30-minute minimum. Caption Colorado bills in 15-minute increments thereafter.

Confidentiality agreements:

All captioners working for Caption Colorado sign company confidentiality agreements.  All captioners sign an additional and enhanced confidentiality agreement and a Sprint Code of Ethics.
